Later he gave up his practice and joined the freedom movement under Mahatma Gandhi. When India became free on August 15, 1947, he was selected as the first Prime Minister.
He was a great leader. India made great progress under his guidance.
He was a very good writer and speaker. He wrote many famous books such as The Discovery of India,  and his autobiography, Toward Freedom.
Nehru loved children and children called him ‘Chacha Nehru’ with love. He liked Children and enjoyed their company. He always wore a rose in his dress. His birthday is celebrated as Children's Day.
He had heart attack on 27 May 1964 and he passed away from this world. The entire world wept over his death. He was one of the builders of modern India. We always remember him fondly.
